Carlos is a poor student who travels two hours on the bus each way to attend a better high school for his education. Nicole meets fellow high school student, sexy Carlos Nunez (played by Jay Hernandez), while she's serving community service hours picking up garbage at the beach. He's remarried and Nicole doesn't get along with her nasty step-mom. Her relationship with her father is pretty strained. Nicole's mother killed herself when Nicole was very young. She's wild and rebellious but all she really wants is for somebody to love her. Kirsten Dunst plays the very wild Nicole Oakley - daughter of a rich congressman.
It's still a teen angst flick, but it's a good story with substance and touching moments. But after seeing it, I wasn't disappointed.
